Hub

A network device where the information flow is accumulated and then distributed to various groups and users. It can be used between users on the same LAN and users on different LANs. There are dumb hubs which simply pass on the signals from one node to another. Smart hub are also there that provide limited management capabilities. There are also intelligent hubs, which support multiple LANs and topologies, provide extensive management capabilities, and can ever house other module types, such as routers and qbridges. Active and passive hubs are also there. Active hubs functions as repeaters, and passive hubs simply tiport repeater, sometimes referred to as a concentrator.
